The Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) is located in Atlantic City, very close to the shore in Southern New Jersey. Situated about 60 miles from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, it is considered a “civil-military” airport, as it is very small and only features a limited number of short flights per day, serviced by Spirit Airlines. (It has "international" in its title because it used to also feature a few routes from Air Canada.) Primarily, this airport services the Atlantic City and Southern Jersey shore region of the state.

This airport is most convenient if you are traveling to or from South Jersey to certain cities in Florida, as there are flights to several destinations within that state. Of course, if that’s not your final destination, these flights allow passengers to connect to other cities in North and South America, as well as the Caribbean. Many area travelers use this airport as a domestic “jumping-off” point to connect to other destinations.

Atlantic City airport offers very few of the same routings as the airport in Philadelphia, as that one is a much larger international hub. However, if you’re fortunate enough to choose a flight that’s serviced from ACY, and if you are based nearby, you’re sure to have an easy, stress-free experience at this small airport that’s never crowded.

In 2011, this airport completed a nearly $30 million renovation and a 75,000-square-foot terminal expansion. Overall, it’s known for Spirit’s inexpensive and short flights to Florida and other destinations in the southern part of the United States.

This is a small airport, so there’s no traffic to deal with when you fly in or out of this destination. There is usually plenty of parking spaces available. There is only one commercial airline that flies in and out of Atlantic City Airport: Spirit Airlines; there used to be others, but currently, Spirit Airlines is the sole option from this airport.

Destinations you can reach by flying from the Atlantic City International Airport include Myrtle Beach, Atlanta, and several cities in Florida, including Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa, Ft. Meyers, and West Palm Beach. Note that the number of flights changes throughout the year, depending on demand. For example, there may be extra flights to and from Florida in the spring and fall, depending on how the flights are booking during that time of year.

What’s New: The Atlantic City International Airport has a recently enhanced terminal layout with free Wi-Fi, more charging stations, and new seating areas. The airport’s baggage claim area is also new with state-of-the-art carousels.

Unlike most airports, parking is easy at Atlantic City International Airport, and the parking lots are open 24 hours a day. The airport features a 1,400-unit, six-story, covered parking garage. This lot is closest to the terminal and features a walkway that’s located just a few steps from the entrance. You can pay for the parking lots via standard credit cards or “EZ pass” plus.

Short-term parking: There is a short-term parking lot adjacent to the parking garage next to the terminal.Long-term parking: There is also a larger outdoor economy parking lot behind the multi-level parking structure. Parking is first-come, first-served, and there is an additional overflow economy lot behind this one if needed.Parking lot shuttle: There is a free shuttle service from the parking lots to the terminal, starting each day at 4 a.m.Cell phone lot: There is a marked cell phone lot for anyone who is waiting to pick up passengers at the airport. Overall, the best way to reach the airport is by private car; however, there are taxi and rideshare services available and a limited local bus service (the Atlantic City Jitney) depending on the season.

Taxis: Taxi service is available curbside at the airport terminal outside of baggage claim. If needed, there is a courtesy phone at the taxi service desk, which is located between baggage claim and the terminal exit.

Rideshare: Both Uber and Lyft operate at the Atlantic City International Airport.

Bus and van service: The Atlantic City Jitney offers a shuttle from the Atlantic City Airport to destinations in Atlantic City. The website (with routing information) is here, and the phone number is 609-646-8642.

Bus connection nearby: NJ Transit has bus lines nearby that connect near the airport (but they don’t go directly to the airport).

Where to Eat and Drink

There are several cafes and restaurants located inside the terminal at the Atlantic City International Airport, including the following options.

O’Brien’s Pub and Grill: This lively eatery features casual Irish-American fare such as burgers, fries, chicken dishes, fish and chips, soups, and a few vegetarian options. They also pour a number of craft beers here comprising both local and international brews.
